Driving into the Grand Champions Villas, the island of Kaho'olawe can be seen in the distance. Kaho'olawe (carried by the current) was inhabited for over 1,000 years by ancient Hawaiians when the island was referred to as "Kanaloa" or "Kohemalamalama". It was named for the god of the ocean and the foundations of the earth; and was a place where kahuna and navigators trained. After many years of protest by the Hawaiian people to stop the practice bombing by the U.S. Navy, the island was returned to the State of Hawaii in 1993. It's considered a sacred island and was symbolic to the renaissance and revival of Hawaiian pride and cultural practices that continues to thrive today.

We stayed here for 4 nights in unit #158 and had a very enjoyable stay. The unit was remodeled within the last two year and was done in excellent taste. The unit overlooks the golf course and is on the upper floor. They have two swimming pools with BBQ facilities in the pool area. The grounds and buildings are well maintained. We found this unit via VRBO and found the pricing to be very fair considering the area.
