Wailea Ekahi Village
Keawakapu means "the sacred or forbidden harbor", although the reason for the name has been lost over the years. In ancient Hawaii, there were reefs and beaches reserved only for high ranking chiefs and those for commoners. Hawaiians refer to surfing as he'e nalu or "wave sliding" and commoners generally rode waves on paipo (prone) and alaia (stand up) boards less than 12 feet, while the chiefs rode on waves on olo boards that were up to 24 feet long. Keawakapu Beach can be gentle for swimming and snorkeling when the waters are calm, and when there is a swell, it is exciting to sit on the shore and watch Maui's experienced body surfers challenging the waves.
Surrounded by lushly landscaped terraces that slope gently toward the Pacific, Wailea Ekahi Village Condos overlook Keawakapu Beach. This Maui family-friendly vacation resort features studios, one- and two-bedroom suites in low rise buildings that span 34 acres of tropical gardens and with an abundance of resort amenities includes four swimming pools, paddle tennis, shuffleboard, and barbecue areas that you can use or you may choose to grill out on your own private lanai. A covered beachfront pavilion near the private beach entrance to Keawakapu Beach offers convenient access to bathroom facilities and a full kitchen with an icemaker to fill your cooler along with a cold water dispenser, refrigerator, microwave, stove and oven so you can plan a day of picnicking without having to go back to your Wailea condo suite. Wailea Ekahi Village is the perfect Maui, Hawaii resort choice for families and friends to hangout and hang loose.

We have stayed in various different units and Ekahi Village and we are always happy with our decision. The beach is a very short walk and the snorkeling is excellent. The kitchens are always well-equipped with everything we need. Stop at Costco on the way from the airport and stock-up for the week. There are items at the Maui Costco that you can't get anywhere on the mainland (the Ahi is amazing!)
