"With the magnificent Pacific views and elegant Maui condos along the beach, our stay here was magical."
Whether you’re a seasoned surfer or just always wanted to give it a try it, Maui offers ideal surfing conditions with average ocean temperatures hovering around a comfortable 75-80 degrees and wave heights that range from a few feet to upwards of 40 feet depending on the time of year and which side of the island you’re on.
Winter months bring the biggest surf to Maui’s expert-only north shores, but no matter what time of year you visit, beginners of all ages, shapes and sizes can take private or group lessons designed to get you riding the waves in no time.
For safety’s sake, always remember surfing etiquette when taking to the water. The general rule being whoever gets to the height of the wave first, gets the ride.
And while you’re on the island, take a drive to Maui’s rugged north shore and watch in awe as the serious surfers tame the monster waves at world-famous Jaws (also known as Pe’ahi). This area is pro-level only, so leave the surfboard but be sure to grab the camera!
