"With the magnificent Pacific views and elegant Maui condos along the beach, our stay here was magical."
Many people logically assume that an ocean view vacation condo means you’ll be steps away from the beach. Although that’s generally the case in places like Florida, due to Hawaii’s drastic topography, it’s not always the case here. Throughout Hawaii, lush, steep mountains rise dramatically from sea level. In other areas the slope is more gradual. At any rate, each of these categories - ocean view, oceanfront and beachfront - all offer guests a view of the ocean to one degree or another.
Let me explain. Five of the seven resorts managed by Destination Resorts Hawaii are situated right along the beaches of Wailea, with varying views. Oceanfront suites sit closest to the ocean with no buildings between them and the sparkling Pacific. The shoreline, while strikingly scenic, does not provide easy access to the water. Beachfront units are situated facing the sandy beach area, and ocean view means you have a nice view of the ocean over lower-lying buildings.
Due to ancient lava flows, Maui’s shoreline is blessed with distinctly unique beaches from tiny, secluded beach coves, to wide-open expanses of soft golden sand, and everything in between. So, while your condo may be “oceanfront” you may have to follow the walkway to the actual beach.
With the exception of Polo Beach Club which is comprised of one eight-story building nestled right on Polo Beach, our resorts consist of several low-lying buildings situated amid lush grounds that span the gentle slopes of Wailea and Makena. Condos that face the ocean in the buildings behind the oceanfront and beachfront buildings are classified as “ocean view”.
In addition to our beachfront properties, Destination Resorts Hawaii manages two resorts located a quarter mile from the beach - Wailea Grand Champions Villas, on the Wailea "Old Blue" Golf Course, and Wailea Ekolu Village. More affordable because of their distance to the ocean, the latter affords guests spectacular panoramic ocean views that encompass the neighboring islands of Lana’i and Kaho’olawe, with Molokini crater in the foreground. The ocean view sample in the slideshow is from Wailea Ekolu Village. Ocean views from Wailea Ekahi Village, Wailea Elua Village, Polo Beach Club, Wailea Beach Villas and Makena Surf are significantly closer to the ocean.
Other view categories include Garden View and Golf View suites, oftentimes offering a glimpse of the ocean, yet not enough to be classified as an ocean view.
