"With the magnificent Pacific views and elegant Maui condos along the beach, our stay here was magical."
The recent holiday celebrating King Kamehameha is a timely reminder of Father’s Day, a day to express appreciation and respect for the dads and father figures in our life.
In Hawaii, a lei is a traditional present that is given to dads during Father’s Day. A popular lei for men is one made with Pua Kika (cigar flower) which are fragrance-free with colors ranging from yellow-orange to orange-red. Any kind of lei can be given as long as it is made with good intentions using natural flowers and plants. Often times, children pick seasonal blossoms from their trees and create beautiful lei as a gift. When a lei is given, it is accompanied with a kiss on the cheek.
In addition to a lei, Maui offers plenty of activities families can gift the special dads in their lives. These activities include:
• Time with nature – Maui offers plenty of hiking trails and beaches that are family-friendly. The outdoors provides a great opportunity for families to reconnect and enjoy the beauty Mother Nature presents. Plus, it’s free.
• Golf – Maui is home to several award-winning, world-class championship courses. The Wailea Golf, located just minutes from our villas, offers a range of day packages. Surprise dad with a tee time or a private lesson at David Leadbetter Golf Academy.
• Fishing – For dads who prefer the water, there are plenty of fishing opportunities on Maui. A family beach day can be more interesting with a couple of fishing poles or charter a boat to the deep blue sea and go fishing for marlin, sailfish, ahi, mahi mahi and ono.
• Spa – Women may have taken over the idea of a spa day but did you know that men started it? In the ancient days, gladiators and warriors were the only ones allowed in thermal baths because they used it to prepare and heal their bodies from battles. Book him a deep tissue or sports massage, just like his car, his body can also use a tune-up once in a while.
There are plenty more activities to present to the special dads in our lives while on Maui. Just call our Ho’okipa Desk at 808 874-0811. We will be happy to help arrange his special day.
