"With the magnificent Pacific views and elegant Maui condos along the beach, our stay here was magical."
We stayed in a 2 bedroom, upper level unit with a great view. The unit was terrific with updated bathrooms and kitchen and supplied with beach towels, chairs, standard hotel toiletries, beach toys, detergent for the washer, dish soap and dishwasher detergent (which definitely cut down on our supermarket bill). There were a couple of days when it was difficult to get moving since just hanging out on the lanai, enjoying the sun with a cup of coffee, was so pleasant!
The unit was an easy walk to the beach and the beach was great! We didn't even use the pools (although the main one looked great) other than to walk thru the pool area to get to the workout room.
I've read other reviews, and yes, the louvered windows and the condo nature means that sound carries easily, and since our downstairs neighbors appeared to be full time residents, I think I would have worried about the sound issues if I had young or super active children. Yes, we could hear construction noise from the next site (but that is clearly tied to the timing of your visit) and some street noise (which wasn't too bad since the condo was located midway between the beach and the street) but overall, the sounds of the ocean outweighed those noises.
A couple of things to note..both bathrooms had showers so if traveling with young children used to a bathtub, I'd make sure and see if there was a unit with a tub available. Having a washer and dryer in the unit was helpful since it definitely cut down on the amount of clothes that we had to pack but next time I'll bring a mesh laundry bag so the the swimsuit strings don't get tangled in the wash. Also, remember this is a condo, not a hotel, so there is a hot water heater for the unit, which meant that we did have to pay attention to timing of showers when the four of us (three of us with long hair to wash out) came back from the beach at the same time and wanted to get ready to go out to dinner. While there are sufficient outlets, I'd suggest bringing one surge protector just to make sure that all the cell phones/laptops can be charged at night. The one thing that I wished the condo supplied was plastic wrap and plastic bags since that is what we forgot to buy at the supermarket and wish we had. Fortunately I did bring ziplock plastic bags with me since previous trips to Hawaii taught me that any crumbs anywhere, will attract ants in record time. If you are planning on checking luggage anyway, the one thing I would suggest bringing with you is extra sunscreen, since you do tend to go through more than you expect and the sunscreen is quite a bit more expensive in the local stores than buying it on sale (or at a warehouse store) at home. (There is a Costco near the airport but unless you have the time to go after arrival, trekking there is about 1/2 hour from Wailea). The workout facility is limited since most of the exercise is geared toward the outdoors but there is an elliptical, treadmill, bike, weights and a multi purpose weight machine. There were people there in the morning but it was usually empty in the afternoons.
All in all, I can't wait to go back. (I can't comment on price/value since my spouse made the reservation and opted not to show me since I had been complaining about the market prices in general when I had been researching the trip).
