"With the magnificent Pacific views and elegant Maui condos along the beach, our stay here was magical."
Hearts, gifts, flowers and chocolates are symbols of love around the world, especially on February due to Valentines Day. In the Hawaiian Islands, we express our love with a lei. A lei is given whole-heartedly with the best intentions to family and friends as a symbol of appreciation, devotion, passion, pride and welcome.
A lei may be created with Hawaiian flowers, feathers, shells, leaves or seeds. It is said that when someone hand weaves a lei for another, their well wishes and love are woven into the lei.
If you are lucky enough to receive a lei, which is often accompanied with a kiss on the cheek, the proper way to wear it is to place the middle of the lei on your shoulders so its beauty may be seen from the front and back. Never remove the lei in front of the giver, give thanks and wear it with a gracious smile. When the lei wilts, return it to aina (land) with appreciation.
For Valentines Day, or any other occasion, shower your loved ones with a beautiful Hawaiian lei. Here at Destination Resorts Hawaii, we show our appreciation and love for our ‘ohana with a lei during birthdays, anniversaries and promotions or just because.
